At first I thought about what kind of pattern I could make and thought abput a grid. I came up with the shape of a square and before I started cutting the pattern with the laser cutter, I cutted them out with paper and tried to combine the two shapes.

Because this worked out, I wanted to cut the shapes with the laser cutter and for that I made a cutting test with my materials. This is really important because it helps, knowing how to set up the cutter correctly, so the material won’t get bunt.

Therefor you create six small squares in illustrator and color them in the RGB-colors blue (0 0 225), red (225 0 0), yellow (0 225 0), green ( ), magenta ( ) and turquoise ( ). Than you will go to „Print“ -> „Page SetUp! -> „color mapping“. In the pictures you can see what the cutting test looked like.

For me the settings were the best. 

For material one - speed: 100, Power: 20, Freq.: 2500

For material two - speed: 100, Power: 30, Freq.: 2000

Put the materials into the laser cutter and set the focus ans the jog. Then go to you Illustrator File and go to print.

Turn on the vacuum for the laser cutter and press „go“

After the material is cut, I put the two shapes together and had my finished pattern!
